Taylor Bol Bowen ‘Healthy and Ready’ for Alabama’s Postseason

Taylor Bol Bowen’s Journey Back to Form

TAMPA, Fla. — Taylor Bol Bowen’s season began with a strong start for the Crimson Tide after transferring from Florida State. He scored in double figures in six of Alabama’s first eight games, showing promise as a key player for the team. However, his season soon faced challenges with injuries.

The 6-10 forward missed five games this season, four of which were during SEC play. In some games, like the match against Florida on February 1, Bol Bowen was only able to play a few minutes off the bench. Despite these setbacks, he gradually increased his playing time and started to look like the player fans had come to expect as the Crimson Tide entered postseason play. His performance in Alabama’s Round of 64 victory was particularly impressive, as he scored 15 points.

“It’s definitely been a lot of ups and downs and dealing with adversity with injuries and everything,” Bol Bowen said. “I’m just glad to be able to be healthy now, to be able to compete.”

Bol Bowen mentioned that he feels healthy now and has felt good “for a while now,” but it wasn’t always that way. The challenges during SEC play were significant, as he missed a lot of practice and several games due to multiple injuries.

In Alabama’s win over Hofstra, Bol Bowen showed signs of his full recovery, moving quickly up and down the court. He helped fill the scoring gap left by Aden Holloway and was also active on defense. Although he only pulled down two rebounds, he added three blocks, showcasing his defensive presence.

“To get him to play that well makes us a totally different team,” Alabama head coach Nate Oats said. “When our front court has depth and they’re playing extremely well, we’re a different team, and hopefully he can take the confidence from that game and keep building for tomorrow’s game.”

Bol Bowen spent two seasons at Florida State and did not get to play in the NCAA tournament. Oats noted that the forward was eager to seize the opportunity as the Crimson Tide prepares for another tournament game against Texas Tech in the Round of 32.

“I think Taylor has done a very good job getting his head exactly where it needs to be,” Oats said. “I couldn’t have been any happier than I was for Taylor when he was playing so great because I think his mind has been right for about a month now and he just needed to get back in the groove and flow.”

Oats emphasized the importance of the NCAA Tournament experience for players who have not had the chance to participate before. He highlighted how Bol Bowen was excited about the environment and the significance of the event.

“These other places, you don’t always go to the Tournament, so you get to play in a tournament, get to play in this type of environment,” Oats said. “Taylor was over there stretching in warmups talking about how cool it all was. I was like, the arena? He’s like, no, March Madness.”

Bol Bowen’s confidence is high, and he hopes to continue playing well as the Crimson Tide advances in March Madness. He expressed that he has been feeling good for a while now and is focused on gaining more playing time and improving his performance.

“I’ve been feeling good for a while now,” he said. “It’s just getting those reps out and getting back in playing and whatnot. I think my team’s been seeing it at practice, just putting a lot of work into the game to try and finish it off right.”
