Priority Health and Group Health Cooperative of Eau Claire Complete Expansion to Enhance Care Access

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Priority Health, a health plan based in Michigan that serves over 1.3 million members, has finalized a transaction with Group Health Cooperative of Eau Claire. This agreement makes Priority Health the sole governing member of the Cooperative, which serves more than 61,000 members in Wisconsin.

The plans for this agreement were first announced in July 2025 and officially closed on January 1, 2026. This move expands Priority Health’s reach into four states, solidifying its position as a major player in the health care industry.

A New Chapter for Priority Health

Expanding Reach and Capabilities

The transaction with the Cooperative makes Priority Health a four-state health plan. In December 2024, Priority Health became the sole member of Physicians Health Plan of Northern Indiana, which serves members in Indiana and Ohio. This expansion allows Priority Health to provide services to even more individuals and employer groups across the Midwest.

Several key firms provided support during the transaction. Kaufman, Hall, and Associates, LLC served as exclusive strategic and financial advisor, while Weld Riley acted as legal counsel to Group Health Cooperative Eau Claire. Taft Stettinius & Hollister served as external legal counsel to Priority Health, and Ankura acted as due diligence advisor.
