Savannah Guthrie Shares Health Update Post Vocal Surgery
Savannah Guthrie Shares Positive Health Update After Surgery
Savannah Guthrie, co-host of NBC’s Today show, recently shared a positive health update following her surgery to remove vocal nodules and a polyp. The update came in the form of an Instagram post on Monday, January 5, where she confirmed that the procedure was successful. Alongside a photo of herself using a dry-erase board gifted by Sheinelle Jones, Guthrie wrote, “See you soon!”
On the board, she noted, “All good! Thanks for prayers and love!” Her post quickly garnered support from fans and fellow Today personalities. Hoda Kotb commented, “Feel better my girlxxxx,” while the official Today Show Radio account expressed excitement, writing, “Can’t wait to hear that voice again soon.”
Fans flooded the comments section with well-wishes, including one who said, “So happy to hear all went well! Sending healing vibes,” and another who added, “Wonderful news!!! I’m praying for you and wishing you well and a speedy recovery!!!”
Some fans also shared personal experiences, such as one who warned, “I had that surgery too. Don’t even THINK about whispering. That’s even more of a strain on those beautiful vocal cords.” Another fan wrote, “Thanks for posting, can’t wait to hear your fully recovered voice on Today once again! Rest up!”
Return to Today and Medical Leave
On Monday, January 5, the Today hosts officially returned from their holiday breaks. However, Guthrie was notably absent from the episode, with Sheinelle Jones stepping in as Craig Melvin’s co-anchor. This marked Guthrie’s first regular absence on medical leave, as she had previously announced her plans to take time off in early 2026 to undergo the surgery.
Despite her absence, Guthrie made a brief appearance on the show’s prerecorded New Year’s Day episode on Thursday, January 1, alongside the rest of the regular cast. During the holidays, Weekend Today hosts Laura Jarrett and Peter Alexander took over for Guthrie and Melvin.
Guthrie’s official return date has not yet been announced, but fans are eagerly awaiting her comeback.
Announcement of Health Issues
Earlier in December, Guthrie surprised Today fans with news about her health during the show’s Friday, December 19, episode. She explained that her voice had been scratchy and cracking, which led to the discovery of vocal nodules and a polyp. “It’s not a big, big deal, but I am gonna have to have a surgery real early in the new year and be off for a couple of weeks,” she said.
Guthrie revealed that the episode would be her last before the surgery. She joked about being silent for a few weeks, saying, “You’ll love this, guys. I have to be silent for a couple of weeks. Totally silent. I know, the jokes write themselves.”
Al Roker humorously remarked, “It’s the best time of the year for Mike Feldman!” while Guthrie added, “I know. Christmas coming early for my family.” She shares her daughter Vale, 11, and son Charley, 9, with her husband, Michael Feldman.
Sheinelle Jones, who had undergone similar surgery in 2020, offered words of encouragement. She mentioned that the procedure would give Guthrie “permission to be still” and described the experience of having the house quiet and children helping out. Jones then gifted Guthrie a dry-erase board to use during her recovery, while Craig Melvin wished her “prayers for healing.”
Guthrie expressed excitement about the surgery, stating, “This has been going on for years, honestly.” Jones suggested that Guthrie might come out of the surgery with the ability to sing again. Guthrie quipped, “I used to be able to sing, and then I couldn’t sing anymore, and then I couldn’t speak anymore. So, who knows? The tour’s happening in 2026. Let’s go!”
Fan Reactions and Support
Fans took to social media to express their support for Guthrie. One comment on Today’s Instagram page read, “I hope all goes excellent! Speedy recovery @savannahguthrie.” Another fan wrote, “All the best – you will be missed.”
Other fans shared messages like, “Sending you positive thoughts and prayers and wishing you a speedy recovery,” and “I noticed that over time her voice sounded that way. I thought she had a cold. Feel better!”
Guthrie shared the surgery announcement via her own Instagram, where fans responded with encouraging words. One user wrote, “Get a supper bell to go with it. You’re going to be just fine. God bless you.” Another added, “Prayers for a speedy recovery! We’ll miss you!”
“Best of luck, you got this. Sending positive vibes for a speedy recovery,” a separate fan wrote, while another shared, “Speedy recovery! I had that done years ago. The hardest part for me was not being able to talk for a while after until my voice returned so I was writing everything down-lol!!”
Upcoming Schedule
As of now, the schedule for Guthrie’s return to Today remains uncertain. Fans continue to express their anticipation for her return and wish her a full and speedy recovery.
