Gilda’s Club Bachelor Auction Marks 16 Years of Philanthropy
A Night of Support and Connection
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The annual bachelor auction, a beloved event in the Rochester community, marked its 16th year on Saturday. This year’s event brought together 25 men who were named Rochester’s “most eligible bachelors” and showcased their talents at Anthology. The fundraiser aimed to support the Cancer Support Community at Gilda’s Club Rochester, an organization dedicated to providing essential programming and support services to over 4,000 individuals affected by cancer each year.
The event was not just about raising funds; it was also a celebration of community spirit and solidarity. Proceeds from the bidding will directly benefit those in the Rochester area who are facing cancer. In return for their generous donations, the highest bidders will receive a special date package that includes gift cards to local restaurants, spas, wine tastings, and more.
A Message of Hope and Awareness
News 8 had the opportunity to speak with co-chair Connor McKenna, who shared the significance of the event. “Honestly, it’s about bringing awareness, and it’s also about helping our members out. All of our members are on their own journeys with cancer, and to be able to bring in funds so that they can benefit from free support, the free services, the hot meal, a friend to talk to, a counseling session, just being able to know that they’re not alone, and being able to help them feel like they’re not alone is really why we’re here doing what we’re doing,” McKenna said.
This sentiment resonates deeply within the community, as many participants are driven by personal experiences with cancer. For some, like Cristian Cruzado, the cause hits close to home. “My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, and it hit pretty close to home, and I just wanted to make an impact. I figured, I’m a handsome, single guy, so why not?” Cruzado shared.
A Fun and Engaging Evening
The event was hosted by 98PXY radio hosts Moose and Breeze, who brought energy and enthusiasm to the night. Their presence added a fun and engaging atmosphere, making the evening both enjoyable and meaningful for attendees.
Supporting a Cause Close to Home
For many of the bachelors, participating in the auction is more than just a chance to have fun—it’s a way to give back and support a cause that has touched their lives. Whether it’s through personal connections or a desire to make a difference, each participant plays a vital role in ensuring that the Cancer Support Community can continue to offer critical services to those in need.
The success of the event highlights the power of community involvement and the importance of supporting organizations that provide essential resources to individuals and families facing cancer. By coming together, the Rochester community continues to make a lasting impact on the lives of those affected by this challenging disease.
Looking Ahead
As the event concluded, organizers and participants alike expressed gratitude for the support received and the positive impact made. The annual bachelor auction not only raises crucial funds but also fosters a sense of unity and hope among the community. With each passing year, the event grows stronger, reflecting the dedication and compassion of those involved.
