Weather Alert for Monday in Southern New England

A frontal boundary is expected to move south, bringing a wintry mix to southern New England on Monday morning. A StormTeam 5 Weather Alert has been issued for the day, with potential impacts on the morning commute.

Meteorologist David Williams from StormTeam 5 noted, “As you wake up early Monday, expect steady rain, especially south of the Pike.” He added, “We have an opportunity to transition from rain to snow for those north of the Pike.”

The morning commute will be wet, and the evening could see snow showers and squalls. While no significant snow accumulation is expected during the morning hours, the combination of snow and sleet could create slick spots on the roads.

Williams explained, “Any snow that does stick will melt.” He added, “Any snow that falls will melt by Tuesday evening.”

The rest of Monday will be cloudy, cool, and breezy. Additional snow showers are possible from Monday evening into the pre-dawn hours of Tuesday. Some of these snow showers could be heavy at times, bringing the potential for a coating to 1 inch of snow. The best chance of snow is in eastern Massachusetts.

Conditions are expected to dry out on Tuesday, but the overall weather pattern will remain cool through the rest of the week.
