Tyler Bilodeau Still Struggles with Knee Pain at UCLA
Tyler Bilodeau’s Recovery and Uncertain Return
Tyler Bilodeau, a key forward for the UCLA Bruins, has been dealing with a sprained right knee that has kept him out of action for over a week. When approached at his locker, he didn’t sound like someone who was close to returning to play.
“It’s still pretty sore and stuff,” Bilodeau told The California Post. “But just trying to take it day by day.”
The injury occurred before halftime during a game against Michigan State in the Big Ten Tournament. Despite the setback, tests showed no structural damage, and Bilodeau returned to practice last week. However, he has missed his team’s last 2 ½ games, leaving his status for the upcoming NCAA Tournament matchup against UConn uncertain.

UCLA coach Mick Cronin emphasized that Bilodeau would need to meet several criteria before being cleared to play. “I got to see him moving with confidence,” Cronin said. “I got to watch him and make sure he’s not doubting his stability and his health on his knee. At the end of the day, I got to do whatever I think is right for him. So we’ll see how he looks [Sunday]. That’s what happened [Friday]. He looked great on Thursday but did not on Friday.”
In Bilodeau’s absence, Xavier Booker stepped into the starting lineup and contributed significantly. Booker scored 15 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and blocked four shots, helping the Bruins secure a 75-71 victory over UCF in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
“I was so proud of the guys; great team win, great defense,” Bilodeau said. “I thought it was an awesome win. Now on to the next thing, right? Getting ready for UConn, so I’m looking forward to that one.”
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his return, Bilodeau remains determined to play. “Yeah, of course,” he said. “I mean, this is March Madness. I want to play. It’s tough sitting on the bench, but that’s all you can do. Just trying to support my team.”
