Abhishek Sharma Hospitalized for Stomach Issue
India’s Cricket Team Faces Uncertainty with Abhishek Sharma’s Health
Abhishek Sharma, a key player for the Indian cricket team, has been admitted to a private hospital in Delhi due to a stomach infection. This development has cast doubt on his participation in the upcoming match against Namibia, which is scheduled to take place on Thursday in Delhi. According to reports, Sharma has been under medical care for the past two days, and further tests are being conducted to determine the exact nature of his condition.
A source from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that while the exact timeline for his discharge is still unclear, it appears unlikely that Sharma will be fit for the game against Namibia. The situation adds an element of uncertainty for the Indian team as they prepare for their next challenge in the T20 World Cup.
Sharma’s health issues were first brought to light during India’s opening match against the USA, where he was dismissed without scoring. Following that game, there were concerns about his fitness when he did not take the field during the USA’s chase in Mumbai. At that time, India’s assistant coach, Ryan ten Doeschate, acknowledged that Sharma was still dealing with some stomach-related issues.
“Abhi still has got a few issues with his tummy,” ten Doeschate mentioned at the time. “We are hopeful that he’ll be available for the game in two days’ time.”
If Sharma is unable to recover in time for the match against Namibia, the Indian team may need to make strategic adjustments. One potential option is to open the batting with Sanju Samson, who was recently replaced by Ishan Kishan as the primary wicketkeeper-batter after a series of low scores against New Zealand. However, the team is currently waiting for updates on Sharma’s condition before finalizing any changes.
“We’re waiting on Abhi’s fitness more than anything and that’ll open up, again, a few different combinations,” ten Doeschate said during a press meeting.
While there are concerns about Sharma’s availability, there is positive news for the Indian team regarding other players. Jasprit Bumrah, who missed the opening match against the USA due to illness, is expected to return for the game against Namibia. He participated in training sessions in Delhi on Tuesday and was seen bowling at full pace.
Another encouraging development is the return of allrounder Washington Sundar. He has rejoined the squad after recovering from a side tear that he sustained during the series against New Zealand. During training on Tuesday, Sundar bowled at the nets and also took part in batting practice, facing throwdowns towards the end of the session.
These developments provide the Indian team with a sense of relief and confidence as they prepare for their next match. With key players returning to action and others working through their challenges, the team is looking to maintain their momentum in the T20 World Cup.
