Public Slide Sessions Every Saturday
The U.P. Luge Club is offering public slide sessions every Saturday until March 7. These sessions are open to anyone five years old and up. Participants can pre-register for a two-hour period at Lucy Hill in Negaunee. Whether you’re a first-time participant or an experienced slider, these sessions provide a great opportunity to get involved with the sport.
The Fruit Cup: A Great Way to Get Started
For those who enjoy the sliding sessions, there’s an additional event to look forward to. The Fruit Cup, scheduled for January 17, is the first race of the season. Registration for this event costs $5, making it an affordable way to dive into the competitive side of luge.
How to Learn the Sport
Henry Anderson, a member of the U.P. Luge Club, explains that learning the sport is straightforward. He notes that participants receive about five minutes of instruction before they start sliding.
“It’s about five minutes of instruction and then we get you started real low down on the hill, and then once you get a feel for the steering, you can move up the track pretty quickly and get going from there,” said Anderson. “So, it’s a pretty quick process.”
This approach ensures that even beginners can quickly gain confidence and skills on the track.
