Pleasant Grove Cancer Survivor Shines in National Baking Contest
A Utah woman is working hard to turn her sweet dreams into reality after it was announced that she would be competing for the top spot in a nationwide baking competition. Bonnie Christiansen, from Pleasant Grove, has been selected to take part in “The Greatest Baker,” a competition that brings together thousands of bakers from the U.S. and Canada.
The contest offers more than just bragging rights—it also comes with a prize of $10,000. Additionally, the competition serves a noble cause by raising funds for families whose children are battling cancer. For Christiansen, this cause is especially close to her heart. She was diagnosed with cancer herself in 2020, which had a profound impact on her life.
“I found out that I had renal cell carcinoma,” Christiansen shared. “That was a pretty devastating diagnosis to hear at the time. I ended up having to have a partial nephrectomy; I had to have part of my kidney removed.”
Just a few months ago, Christiansen received another difficult medical update—she was diagnosed with a brain tumor and is currently undergoing radiation treatment. Despite these challenges, she remains determined to use her passion for baking to make a difference.
Christiansen needs support to move forward in the competition. She is currently in the running for the quarterfinals, which will take place on Wednesday. If you’d like to help her progress, you can vote for her. The winner of the competition will be announced at the end of January.
“My goal with competing in The Greatest Baker is to use my love of baking to make a real difference,” Christiansen said. “I want to help ensure that no family has to worry about the cost of medical care for their child. I also hope to show how something as simple as baking treats can be used to support others and bring people together.”
Her journey is not only about personal achievement but also about giving back to those in need. Through her participation in the competition, Christiansen is using her talents to raise awareness and funds for a cause that has touched her life in a deeply personal way.
