Freezing fog possible overnight Saturday in the Piedmont Triad
PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — Areas of patchy fog are possible overnight Saturday into Sunday morning. Temperatures will be falling into the upper 20s which would mean the potential for areas of freezing fog as well. Watch for slick spots on bridges/overpasses.
We’ll see a mix of sun and clouds on Sunday and afternoon highs reach the upper 40s. Mostly cloudy skies return Sunday night into Monday.
Monday’s temperatures will fall throughout the day which means we’ll see our “high temperature” in the morning and our “low temperature” at the end of the day. We’ll start the morning in the upper 30s with temperatures falling below freezing by the evening. We’re also looking at our next chance to see some rain/snow showers on Monday. Right now, the chance looks low because the amount of moisture available looks to be fairly low. However, temperatures in the upper levels of the atmosphere will certainly be cold enough to support some snowflakes, if we have enough moisture.
Keep in mind, surface temperatures will be above freezing through the morning which means little to no accumulation is expected at this point. These would also be scattered rain/snow showers kind of like what we see with the hit-or-miss storms in the summertime. This is expected to be a quick system that moves through so at this point little impacts expected but we’ll need to watch for slick spots by Monday evening if anything does fall. The chance for scattered rain/snow showers is 40%.
The VERY cold air arrives on Tuesday morning. We’ll see temperatures in the 10s, so well below freezing. Skies will be mostly sunny and afternoon highs will reach the low 40s. Partly cloudy skies on Wednesday with morning lows in the upper 20s and afternoon highs reaching the low 50s.
Low chance for stray showers on Thursday and Friday. On Thursday, temperatures will start off in the mid 30s in the morning afternoon highs reach the low 50s. The chance for rain Thursday is 20%.
Friday brings partly cloudy skies and morning lows in the upper 30s. Afternoon highs reach the upper 40s. The chance for showers is 30%.
Colder air moves in for the weekend with morning lows Saturday in the mid 20s. Afternoon highs reach the upper 30s. Skies will be mostly sunny.
