Tough travel as snow coats streets across eastern Iowa Saturday night
Driving is becoming more difficult across eastern Iowa as snow continues to fall Saturday night. Snow is quickly covering the streets and making it difficult for crews to keep up with keeping them clear.
Moderate to heavy snow will keep roads slick and reduce visibility. The Tama County Sheriff’s Office is asking everyone to stay home if they don’t need to be out as conditions deteriorate.
If you must travel, you can check road conditions here and be prepared for side roads to be even more slippery.
Stick to main roads as much as you can, but expect they will still be partially to mostly covered as snow comes down. Drive slow and give plenty of space to other cars, especially plows!

Snowfall totals will be within 3-6″ across a majority of eastern Iowa with locally higher amounts of 7-8″ possible. The heaviest of the snow is expected between Highway 20 and I-80. Snow will be light and fluffy, thankfully easy to move, but could be blown around as winds pick up Sunday morning.

Many cities have snow emergencies in place and some churches are canceling early morning services on Sunday. You can see the full list of announcements here.
