Blood drive held to honor North Haven girl who died from leukemia

NORTH HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Community members gathered Saturday in North Haven for a blood drive honoring a young woman who lost her battle with cancer.

Amelia DePino was a member of the North Haven High School Class of 2017. She was diagnosed with leukemia her senior year and battled the disease for over two years.

This blood drive at the Wakeley Community and Recreation Center was part of an effort to honor her memory by her friends and loved ones.

“The goal is to really get blood for folks who need it, whether it be cancer treatments, specifically leukemia treatments, like Amelia got tons and tons of bags because she needed them,” Amelia’s mother Annetta DePino said. “So this is the best way to honor her memory and make sure people donate so that others could live.”
