Arkansas State University hosts mental health day during finals and holiday season
JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – Arkansas State University hosted a mental health day for students and community members during finals week and the holiday season.
The event was held at the Arkansas State University Museum, where attendees could ease their mind during a stressful time.
Dr. Savannah Cormier, associate professor of counseling, said they wanted to prioritize giving everyone a mental health day.
“Especially around the holidays, everybody assumes it to be a happy time, but for some people it can be really lonely. It can be very overwhelming,” said Cormier, who also serves as Director of Play Therapy Education and Research Center. “Parents are the ones who foster a lot of Christmas and holiday magic and so we wanted to share some of that load with families in the area.”
The event featured therapy dogs, therapy chickens, different activities, and trained therapists and mental health professionals on site.
