Hundreds attend Hanahan holiday parade despite rainy weather
HANAHAN, S.C. (WCSC) — Hundreds of people lined the streets Saturday morning for the Hanahan holiday parade, undeterred by rainy weather.
Festive floats, school and community groups and Santa made their way through the parade route as children ran into the streets to collect candy. Families watched from under umbrellas as bright lights and large trucks passed by.
The parade began at Hanahan High School at 10 a.m. The route started on Murray Drive and then to Belvedere Drive and Loftis Road. From there, it went from Yeamans Hall Road to Murray Drive and ended back at Hanahan High School. The event was not hosted by the city, but local police, firefighters and the city took part in the event.
Participants tossed candy, waved and wished spectators happy holidays throughout the route.
Young parade-goers shared their excitement about the event.
“My favorite part was getting all the candy and getting to see my friends,” elementary school student Lizah Drumheller said.
“Our community loves it and we cherish it a lot,” Hanahan Middle School student, David Payne said.
The city’s parks and recreation department will host a tree lighting ceremony and holiday vendor market Friday, Dec. 12, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at Hanahan Amphitheater, located at 3106 Amphitheater Avenue.
