Ag commissioner Gipson hopes Legislature will take up taxes, health care, PERS in 2026
MAGEE, Miss. (WDAM) – Mississippi’s commissioner of agriculture and commerce has a Christmas wish list for the State Legislature.
Andy Gipson hopes lawmakers will take up tax and health insurance reform when they begin meeting in January.
He also wants them to focus on making improvements to Mississippi’s Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS). ERS.
“We’re asking them to look at fully funding the retirement system for our state employees and retirees and also helping our first responders to have a good retirement that they deserve,” Gipson said.
“They put their lives on the line. Teachers as well, they’re putting their lives on the line in another kind of way, but looking out for our state employees is going to be a big priority as we watch this coming session.”
Gipson attended an open house at Magee General Hospital Friday.
In June of this year, he announced he would run for governor in 2027.
