Fairmont Lions Club hosts annual Child in Need Christmas party
FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WBOY) — Holiday generosity took center stage in Marion County Saturday as the Fairmont Lions Club hosted its annual Child in Need Christmas Party at the Union Rescue Mission.
The event brought together more than 150 children and their families for a celebration designed to ensure every child in the community experiences the magic of Christmas. Volunteers from the Lions Club, Union Rescue Mission and partnering organizations worked throughout the week to prepare wrapped presents, assemble treat bags and decorate the event space.
“This experience and being a part of this project with the Lions Club is a blessing. It’s a lot of work, but just the smiles on their faces and the impact that were able to make, I just feel blessed to be a part of it,” Development Director for the Union Rescue Mission in Fairmont Jacci Maier said. “The opportunity to be able to help these parents because they are already feeling overwhelmed and deflated, so this is an opportunity for us to help them because they want their children to be happy, they want their children to have things.”
Organizers said the goal remains the same each year: to support families struggling financially during the holiday season and to provide children with a joyful, stress-free experience. Union Mission staff noted that the need in the community has grown in recent years, making partnerships like this essential in meeting local demand.
“The Lion’s have been doing this project at the Union Mission for used to be cut off at 100 kids, and it’s just grown. So, this is our biggest year at 168,” the Committee Chairperson for the Fairmont Lion’s Club Virginia Giniagallion said.
The Fairmont Lions Club hosts the Child in Need Christmas Party annually as part of its ongoing mission to support disadvantaged residents, promote youth programs, and address community needs throughout the year.
