Barrackville Lions Club hosts Christmas in our town

BARRACKVILLE, W.Va. (WBOY) — The Barrackville Lions Club hosted its annual Christmas In Our Town celebration on Saturday, drawing residents and visitors for a full day of community activities, holiday traditions and evening festivities that have become a highlight of the town’s seasonal calendar.

The event opened with morning activities at the Barrackville Community Building, followed by craft vendors, food trucks and family attractions located throughout the town. The day also featured transportation-themed activities, including trolleybus rides at the historic Barrackville Covered Bridge to the front of Barrackville School.

“The community comes together, family comes in from out of town, and especially if the weather is above 30 degrees we get a great turnout which is going on today,” Barrackville Christmas In Our Town Parade Manager Anita Rose said. “It is entirely by volunteers, if it wasn’t for the volunteers nothing would be done.”

A formal observance took place in the afternoon at the Memorial Wall, where the Marion County Honor Guard conducted a wreath-laying ceremony. The observance included a 21-gun salute and a performance of Taps by Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant Greg Kropog.

Steve and Debbie Higgins lit the community Christmas tree near the Barrackville Methodist Church, signaling the start of the Christmas In Our Town parade, which traveled along Pike Street from the Barrackville Covered Bridge to Rice Street and was led by Grand Marshal Ginger Straight.

Following the procession, the Pittsburgh Steeline performed near the Methodist Church parsonage, and families gathered at “Santa’s Workshop” for visits and photos with Santa, along with character appearances from Anna and Elsa. The celebration concluded with a fireworks display behind Barrackville School.
