Worst Sprite Flavor Is a Limited Disaster
When two beloved flavors are combined, the result can either be a delightful surprise or a disappointing letdown. In the case of Sprite + Tea, it appears to fall into the latter category. This unusual mashup, which aimed to merge the crispness of Sprite with the earthy notes of tea, ended up being one of the least favored products in Tasting Table’s comprehensive ranking of six Sprite flavors.
The concept of Sprite + Tea was initially inspired by a fan-created trend that gained attention on social media during the summer of 2023. Enthusiasts began experimenting by steeping tea bags in their Sprite, resulting in a refreshing and slightly tea-infused drink. Encouraged by this buzz, The Coca-Cola Company decided to bring the idea to life with an official product. The launch was met with some early success, as the beverage won a Fabi Award at the National Restaurant Association Show. However, this promising start did not translate into a successful final product.
In May 2025, Sprite + Tea was released as a limited-time summertime offering, available through October. According to the company’s press release, the drink was described as an “amber-colored sparkling beverage” that “strikes a smooth and refreshing balance of the complementary flavors.” Unfortunately, the execution fell short of these lofty expectations.
Taste testers found the product to be unbalanced, with the lime flavor of Sprite overpowering the black tea notes. One reviewer noted, “[W]hat seemed a promising concept didn’t deliver, partially because of the Sprite’s signature lime flavor … The black tea and lime flavors fought for attention and the black tea was entirely too strong.” The overall experience was described as unpleasant, leaving many consumers disappointed.
Before even tasting the product, fans were quick to criticize its nutrition label. A Reddit thread from the time of the product’s release featured comments such as, “It is both a miracle of science and an affront to human decency that the bottle contains 61 grams of sugar.” Others questioned the authenticity of the tea component, with one user asking, “How is it that a soda that claims to be ‘Sprite + Tea’ has absolutely no black tea in the ingredients list?” Notably, the word “tea” does not appear anywhere on the label, raising concerns about the product’s true composition.
Once consumers actually tried the drink, their feedback remained largely negative. Target customer reviews were filled with complaints like, “Eww. Just don’t like the taste,” “Bad taste. Yuck! Yucky! Icky! Gross!” and “Bad combination.” On Amazon, one reviewer stated, “I love tea and I like Sprite, but [I] do not recommend.”
At Target, a 12-pack of Sprite + Tea 12-ounce cans costs around $8.39 — the same price as a 12-pack of Diet Coke, citrusy Fanta Orange, or regular lemon-lime Sprite. For those looking for a better option, there are plenty of alternatives that offer more satisfying flavors.
While the limited-edition nature of Sprite + Tea means it will eventually disappear from shelves, its brief presence has left many questioning the wisdom behind the product. For now, it seems best to stick with the classics.
