Extended hours for walk-in minor injuries unit
Extended Hours for Minor Injuries Unit in Trowbridge
Starting on Monday, residents of Wiltshire will benefit from extended hours at the walk-in minor injuries unit located at Trowbridge Community Hospital. The facility will now be open from 08:30 to 20:00 every day, offering greater accessibility for those with non-emergency medical needs.
This change marks a significant shift, as the longer operating hours were initially scheduled to take effect after the service relocated to the new Trowbridge Integrated Care Centre in early 2026. However, the timeline has been accelerated due to discussions with the local council and positive feedback from the community. This adjustment aligns the service with the operational hours it had before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Caroline Holmes, interim executive director of place for Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board, highlighted the importance of this development. She stated that “same-day care in Trowbridge will shortly be back to where it was pre-pandemic, which we know is something that will be greatly welcomed by many in the local community.”
Reducing Pressure on A&E Departments
The minor injuries unit provides essential care for a range of conditions, including sprains, strains, infected wounds, and minor head injuries. It serves as a crucial resource for individuals seeking prompt medical attention without the need to visit an emergency department.
This service is part of a broader initiative to move several healthcare offerings to the new Trowbridge Integrated Care Centre, which is set to open in spring 2026. The center will house various services, including the minor injuries unit, and will be managed by HCRG Care Group.
Val Scrase, south west regional director of HCRG Care Group, expressed enthusiasm about the early extension of the center’s hours. He noted, “As the new community services provider for Wiltshire, we’re delighted to be able to extend the hours of the centre earlier than planned, particularly as we head into the busy winter months. This will help to reduce pressure on local A&E departments and make sure more people can get the care and support they need closer to home.”
