A Day of Change and Uncertainty
Hi, Philly. Expect another sunny, gusty day.
A charter school in Northeast Philadelphia has been through a period of significant change and instability. Now, its future is uncertain as the renewal process is on hold.
With another successful regular season, an early exit from the National League Division Series, and several key players heading into free agency, it’s time to consider who should stay with the Phillies in 2026 and who might need to move on. Swipe to share your thoughts on who should remain and who should be let go.
Northwood Academy Charter School Faces Challenges
Northwood Academy Charter School was once known for its strong sense of community and dedicated educators who often stayed for many years. However, recent reports indicate that the school is experiencing significant issues, including high staff turnover, academic concerns, and declining morale.
The Frankford-based school’s charter renewal is currently paused as the district investigates the situation. Some critics argue that the problems began when the school board hired an external human resources firm to review hiring practices. Instead of helping, some believe the firm contributed to the exodus of staff.
“Every day, teachers and staff are considering leaving,” said the school’s union president. “Families are also starting to look elsewhere because they feel the shift. The school we once knew and loved has become unrecognizable.”

Key players such as Ranger Suárez, J.T. Realmuto, and Kyle Schwarber are set to become free agents. If the team chooses not to retain them, they could use the savings to bring in new talent.
