Flight Schedules, Drills, Work Hours Adjusted for College Entrance Exam

The Ministry of Education has announced a series of adjustments to flight schedules, military drills, and government office working hours for the day of the annual college entrance exam, set for November 13. These measures aim to reduce disturbances for students taking the high-stakes test, known as “Suneung.”
With over 554,000 students expected to participate, the exam will be held from 8:40 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. across 1,310 testing sites nationwide. The ministry has implemented several initiatives to ensure that students can arrive at their designated locations without unnecessary stress or delays.
Key Adjustments for the Exam Day

Government Office Hours: To minimize traffic congestion during peak hours, the ministry has requested that government offices and companies delay the start of their workday to 10 a.m. This change is intended to ease commuting for students and reduce the number of vehicles on the road during the morning rush.

Public Transportation Enhancements: Subway services in the broader capital area will be increased from 6 a.m. to 8:10 a.m., ensuring more frequent train availability for students traveling to their testing sites. Additionally, emergency transportation vehicles will be deployed at stations to assist those who may need extra support.

Air Travel Restrictions: During the English listening section of the exam, which is scheduled from 1:10 p.m. to 1:35 p.m., the ministry will restrict takeoffs and landings of planes and helicopters. This measure is designed to minimize noise disruptions that could affect students’ concentration.

Military Activities Suspended: Military drills involving artillery and tank movements will also be paused on the exam day. This decision aligns with the goal of creating a quiet and stable environment for students as they complete their test.

The College Scholastic Ability Test is considered one of the most critical events in South Korean society.
