A school in Wingate, Wellfield School, is set to receive nearly £440,000 to support its expansion efforts. This funding comes as a result of the approval of a new housing development in nearby Wheatley Hill by Durham County Council. The £437,616 funding package is part of a planning obligation agreed upon by the developer, Gleeson Homes, for the new estate located near Quilstyle Road. According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, council planners stated that the site is in a sustainable location and that the proposed homes would help address the identified needs in County Durham.
