Detroit Lions Downgrade S Daniel Thomas's Return from Forearm Surgery

Daniel Thomas, a safety for the Detroit Lions, will remain on injured reserve for at least one more week due to a broken forearm. The team has officially listed him as out for Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings. This decision comes as Thomas continues his recovery from surgery in September.

Thomas returned to practice this week and was initially listed as questionable on the Lions’ weekly injury report. However, the team has now moved him to the injured reserve list, which means he will not be available for the remainder of the season unless activated within the next two weeks.

The Lions have a limited window to make a decision on Thomas. If they choose to activate him, they must do so before the end of the regular season. Otherwise, he will remain on IR for the rest of the year. This move highlights the challenges the team faces in managing its roster while ensuring players are fully recovered before returning to action.

With a relatively healthy roster following last week’s bye, the Lions made just one other roster move on Saturday. They elevated linebacker Ty Summers from the practice squad to the gameday roster. This move is aimed at strengthening the team’s depth, particularly on special teams.

On Friday, the Lions ruled out several key players due to injuries. Safety Kerby Joseph (knee), running back Craig Reynolds (hamstring), and linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez (knee) were all placed on the inactive list. Additionally, Taylor Decker (shoulder), Avonte Maddox (hamstring), Sione Vaki (groin), and Thomas were listed as questionable.

Despite these setbacks, the Lions remain optimistic about their chances. Decker is expected to start in the game, while Summers could play a vital role on special teams. This strategy allows the team to maintain its competitive edge even with some key players sidelined.
