Salmonella Outbreak from Super Greens Powder Sicks Virginia and New York Residents
A Multi-State Salmonella Outbreak Linked to a Popular Dietary Supplement
A recent salmonella outbreak has been linked to a widely available dietary supplement, affecting individuals across seven states, including Virginia and New York. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have issued warnings about the potential health risks associated with the product.
As of the latest update, 11 people in Florida, Kansas, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia have been infected. Three of those individuals have required hospitalization. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported so far.

The Affected Product: Member’s Mark Super Greens
The illnesses have been traced back to the Member’s Mark Super Greens dietary supplement powder, which includes moringa leaf powder as one of its ingredients. This product was sold nationwide through Sam’s Club stores and online platforms. In response to the outbreak, the company has halted the distribution of the supplement. However, officials are cautioning that some consumers may still have the product at home.
Both the CDC and FDA are urging consumers to discard the product or return it to the point of purchase immediately. All lot codes and best-by dates of the Member’s Mark Super Greens are affected by this recall.
“Do not eat any Member’s Mark Super Greens powdered supplements containing moringa leaf powder. Throw them away or return them to where you bought them,” the CDC emphasized.
Tracing the Contamination Source
According to the FDA, the contamination has been traced back to a single batch of organic moringa leaf powder supplied by Vallon Farm Direct PVT LTD, based in Jodhpur, India. This specific batch, labeled as lot VFD/ORG/MORP/L/24 with a best-by date of November 2027, was distributed to multiple US distributors, leading to a nationwide recall.
Investigators confirmed the link between the outbreak and the contaminated product after samples collected from the homes of ill individuals in Virginia and Michigan tested positive for the Salmonella Richmond strain.
“As part of this investigation, all Member’s Mark Super Greens dietary supplement powder has been recalled, regardless of lot codes and best by/use before dates,” the FDA stated in its update on Friday, October 31.
Ongoing Investigation and Warnings
Officials are warning that additional products containing moringa leaf powder from the same supplier could be added to the recall list as testing continues. Consumers and retailers are advised to sanitize any surfaces or containers that may have come into contact with the product. If symptoms such as diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps develop within 12 to 72 hours of exposure, individuals should seek medical attention.
Sam’s Club has informed customers directly and has stopped the sale of the supplement. The FDA is continuing its investigation to determine the exact source and extent of the contamination.
Consumer Actions and Next Steps
Consumers who have purchased the affected product should take immediate action to ensure their safety. Discarding the product or returning it to the retailer is strongly recommended. Retailers are also encouraged to check their inventory and follow the necessary steps to remove the product from shelves.
As the investigation progresses, more information may become available regarding the scope of the outbreak and the potential for further recalls. Staying informed and following official guidelines is essential for protecting public health.
