IDF Claims Strike in South Lebanon Killed Four Top Hezbollah Fighters

Israeli Airstrike Kills Four Hezbollah Operatives in Southern Lebanon

An Israeli airstrike on Saturday night in southern Lebanon killed four members of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force, according to military sources. The attack occurred in the village of Kfar Roummane, near Nabatieh, and targeted the logistics chief of the Radwan Force. While the military did not name the individual, it stated that he was involved in transferring weapons and efforts to restore terror infrastructure in the region.

Lebanese authorities confirmed the deaths, with the health ministry reporting that four people were killed and three others injured in the strike. The three additional fatalities were also identified as members of the Radwan Force, which the IDF described as violating the ceasefire agreement.

Hezbollah’s Radwan Force was previously known for its role in planning invasions into Israel, including the group’s long-term “Conquer the Galilee” strategy. However, much of Hezbollah’s leadership was eliminated during the 2023-2024 conflict, which saw a significant degradation of the group’s capabilities.

On Sunday, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz criticized Lebanese President Joseph Aoun for delaying efforts to disarm Hezbollah. He warned that Israel would take further action if Beirut failed to act. “Hezbollah is playing with fire and the Lebanese president is dragging his feet,” Katz said in a post on X. He emphasized the need for the Lebanese government to commit to disarming Hezbollah and removing it from southern Lebanon. “Maximum enforcement will continue and deepen—we will not allow a threat to the residents of the [Israeli] north.”

Hezbollah began attacking Israel on October 8, 2023, following Hamas’ invasion of southern Israel, which triggered the war in Gaza. After nearly a year of cross-border clashes, Israel launched a major campaign against Hezbollah in September 2024, significantly weakening the group and eliminating most of its top leadership. A ceasefire was declared in November 2024, requiring both sides to withdraw from southern Lebanon, with the Lebanese armed forces taking over the area.

Israel has since withdrawn from all but five strategic posts along the border, while continuing to conduct strikes against what it claims are Hezbollah’s attempts to rearm. According to the IDF, it has killed over 330 Hezbollah operatives in strikes, hit hundreds of sites, and conducted more than 1,000 raids and operations in response to violations by the group.

In recent weeks, the IDF has reportedly increased the frequency of attacks on Hezbollah. Despite being weakened by the war, the group continues to face regular Israeli strikes. Hezbollah is under pressure from both internal and international forces to surrender its weapons, and the Lebanese army has developed a plan to disarm it. However, reports suggest that the Lebanese military has run out of explosives after using them to destroy Hezbollah stockpiles.

Backed by Iran, Hezbollah has refused to lay down its arms. Meanwhile, Israel believes the group may have acquired new weapons, raising concerns about potential renewed conflict. Lebanon, on the other hand, claims that Israel rejected an offer to begin talks on an IDF withdrawal last month.

The situation remains tense, with both sides closely monitoring developments along the border. As tensions persist, the risk of further violence continues to loom over the region.
