Salmonella Outbreak from Super Greens Powder Sickens Virginia and New York Residents
A Multi-State Salmonella Outbreak Linked to a Dietary Supplement
A recent salmonella outbreak has been reported across seven states, including Virginia and New York, according to warnings from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The incident has affected 11 individuals, with three requiring hospitalization. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported so far.

The Culprit: Member’s Mark Super Greens
The illnesses have been traced back to the dietary supplement called Member’s Mark Super Greens, which is a powder containing moringa leaf powder. This product was available nationwide at Sam’s Club stores and online. In response to the health concerns, the company has halted the distribution of the product. However, officials are cautioning that some consumers may still have the supplement in their homes.
The CDC and FDA are urging consumers to discard the product or return it to where they purchased it. All lot codes and best-by dates of Member’s Mark Super Greens are affected by this warning.
“Do not eat any Member’s Mark Super Greens powdered supplements containing moringa leaf powder. Throw them away or return them to where you bought them,” the CDC emphasized.
Contamination Source Identified
According to the FDA, the contamination has been linked to a single batch of organic moringa leaf powder supplied by Vallon Farm Direct PVT LTD, based in Jodhpur, India. The specific batch in question is lot VFD/ORG/MORP/L/24, with a best-by date of November 2027. This batch was distributed to various US distributors, leading to a nationwide recall.
Investigations confirmed the connection after samples collected from the homes of ill individuals in Virginia and Michigan tested positive for the outbreak strain of Salmonella Richmond.
“As part of this investigation, all Member’s Mark Super Greens dietary supplement powder has been recalled, regardless of lot codes and best by/use before dates,” the FDA stated in its latest update on Friday, Oct. 31.
Ongoing Investigation and Warnings
Officials have warned that additional products containing moringa leaf powder from the same supplier could be added to the recall list as testing continues. Consumers and retailers are advised to sanitize any surfaces or containers that may have come into contact with the product. If symptoms of salmonella infection occur, individuals should consult a healthcare provider. Typical symptoms include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps, which usually appear within 12 to 72 hours of exposure.
Sam’s Club has notified customers directly and has stopped the sale of the supplement. The FDA is continuing its investigation to determine how and where the contamination occurred.
