Summerville Leaders Approve 5-Year STEM Lab Sponsorship
New STEM Lab Launches in Summerville with High-Tech Upgrades
Summerville, South Carolina has taken a significant step forward in education and technology with the approval of a new STEM Lab. This initiative, made possible by a five-year sponsorship from Home Telecom, aims to provide residents with access to cutting-edge learning tools and resources.
The $55,000 commitment from Home Telecom will be used to fund gaming stations, coding equipment, music production tools, and esports facilities at the Rollins Edwards Community Center. The lab is designed to offer hands-on learning experiences that cater to individuals of all ages, with a special focus on engaging and preparing teens for future careers in technology and innovation.
Amy Evans, the Director of Parks and Recreation for Summerville, expressed her excitement about the project. She stated, “By investing in both the technology and the programs to support it, Home Telecom is helping us create meaningful opportunities for residents of all ages, with a special emphasis on engaging and preparing teens for their future.”
The STEM lab will transform an existing multi-purpose room into a dynamic, technology-driven space. It will feature 10 fully-outfitted computer stations, allowing participants to explore various aspects of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. These stations will be equipped with the latest software and hardware to support a wide range of educational activities.
Home Telecom has also committed to providing ongoing support for the next five years. This includes regular maintenance, updates, and training sessions to ensure that the lab remains a valuable resource for the community. The company’s CEO, William Helmly, shared his enthusiasm for the initiative, saying, “We’re proud to support the next generation of innovators by investing in STEM education in the communities in which we live.”
