Decision Education Alliance Appoints David Samuelson as Executive Director in National Curriculum Initiative
Leadership Transition Marks New Era for Decision Education
Philadelphia, PA — The Alliance for Decision Education has announced the appointment of David Samuelson as its new Executive Director. This development marks a significant step forward for the nonprofit organization as it continues to push for decision-making skills to become an essential part of K–12 education.
Samuelson brings over 25 years of experience in the fields of education technology, digital learning, and professional development. Before joining the Alliance, he served as CEO of ISACA, an international association focused on digital trust and cybersecurity. During his tenure, he played a key role in expanding the organization’s global presence and enhancing member engagement.
His connection with the Alliance dates back more than a decade through its Advisory Council. There, he contributed to efforts aimed at integrating Decision Education into classrooms across the country. Samuelson expressed that his new role is both professionally and personally meaningful.
“Helping young people develop their critical thinking and decision-making abilities is one of the most impactful ways to enhance their future opportunities,” said Samuelson. “I’m eager to keep driving this movement forward and ensure that Decision Education becomes a lasting part of how we prepare the next generation.”
Annie Duke, co-founder of the Alliance for Decision Education, praised Samuelson’s leadership and dedication. “David is a trusted leader whose long-standing commitment to Decision Education, along with his extensive experience, makes him ideally suited to guide the Alliance moving forward,” she said. “His insights and passion will be crucial in expanding our reach and bringing Decision Education to students nationwide.”
As part of the leadership transition, Adriana Massara, who has been serving as interim executive director, will return to her previous role as Chief Operating Officer.
What Is Decision Education?
The Alliance for Decision Education, based in the Philadelphia area, works closely with educators, researchers, and policymakers to promote curricula that teach students how to think probabilistically, weigh trade-offs, and make informed life choices. This mission is gaining momentum as schools increasingly emphasize critical thinking and problem-solving skills in the context of AI and rapid technological change.
Key components of Decision Education include:
- Teaching students to evaluate risks and outcomes
- Encouraging them to consider multiple perspectives
- Helping them understand the consequences of their choices
- Fostering resilience and adaptability in complex situations
This approach not only prepares students for academic success but also equips them with the tools needed to navigate real-world challenges.
The Importance of Decision-Making Skills
In today’s fast-paced and ever-changing world, the ability to make sound decisions is more important than ever. With the rise of artificial intelligence and automation, students need to develop skills that cannot be easily replicated by machines. Decision Education aims to fill this gap by providing a structured framework for teaching these essential abilities.
Through partnerships with schools and educational institutions, the Alliance is working to integrate Decision Education into standard curricula. This initiative aligns with broader efforts to enhance student outcomes by focusing on critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving.
Looking Ahead
With Samuelson at the helm, the Alliance is poised for continued growth and impact. His background in education technology and leadership experience will be instrumental in advancing the organization’s goals. As more schools recognize the value of decision-making skills, the demand for effective curricula and resources is expected to increase.
The Alliance remains committed to its mission of empowering students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in an uncertain future. By fostering a culture of thoughtful decision-making, it hopes to create a lasting legacy that benefits generations to come.
