Kilgore College Announces Interim President Replacement
KILGORE, Texas – The Kilgore College Board of Trustees made a significant decision on Monday by appointing Dr. Staci Pollan Martin as the school’s interim president. This move comes as the current president, Dr. Brenda Kays, prepares to retire in February 2026.
Kilgore College is currently celebrating its 90th anniversary of providing higher education in East Texas. The appointment of Martin marks an important transition for the institution, and she has expressed her deep gratitude for the opportunity.
“Being selected as interim president of Kilgore College is the highest honor of my career,” Martin said. “I am grateful to the Board of Trustees for placing their faith in me to serve KC in this role and will do my best to be a good steward of this great institution while it is in my care.”
Martin currently holds the position of vice president of organizational effectiveness and excellence at Kilgore College. She is set to officially take over as interim president on November 1. Her long-standing commitment to the college began in 2001, during which she has held various leadership roles.
Some of her previous positions include:
- Vice president of student life and college affairs
- Vice president of student services
- Vice president of institutional planning
- Registrar
- Director of admissions
Her extensive experience within the college has prepared her well for this new challenge.

In addition to her leadership roles, Martin has an impressive academic background. She holds:
- A doctor of education degree in higher education from Texas Tech University
- A master’s of science degree in interdisciplinary studies from Texas A&M University–Texarkana
- A bachelor’s of science degree in interdisciplinary studies from Texas A&M University
Throughout her time at Kilgore College, Martin has been instrumental in leading several campus-wide initiatives focused on student success, institutional effectiveness, and innovation. She has also served as the college’s liaison to important organizations such as the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Additionally, she has represented the college at state and national conferences.
President Kays will continue to support Kilgore College during the transition into her retirement. She has been honored with the title of president emeritus for her contributions to the institution.
The Kilgore College Board of Trustees has also taken steps to ensure a smooth transition by entering into a contract with the Association of Community College Trustees. This organization will assist in the search for a new permanent president. It is expected that the new president will begin their role in June or July of 2026.
