CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — A new initiative is bringing a fresh and healthier option to school lunches in West Virginia. Smart Mouth Pizza, known for its commitment to quality and nutrition, has begun supplying select schools with its freshly made pizzas. Liberty Middle School in Harrison County is the first to introduce this innovative approach to school meals.
Starting on Tuesday, 300 pizzas will be offered free of charge to students at Liberty Middle School. These pizzas are designed to meet all federal nutrition standards, making them a more wholesome alternative to traditional frozen school pizzas. According to Principal John Rogers, the freshness of the ingredients plays a key role in the health benefits.
“It’s fresh, so anytime anything is made fresh from scratch, it is probably a little bit healthier,” said Rogers.
Students will initially have the choice between cheese pizza and pepperoni pizza, with plans to expand the menu in the future. Rogers shared his excitement about the program during an interview with 12 News.
“Well, I think we’re excited to have another line for our kids, another option for lunch and in the past we have had pizza, it’s more of a frozen pre-prepared pizza, this is fresh, made daily,” said Rogers. “Kids will get it hot and it will take them less time to get through the line and the pizza is a really good option for kids at this age.”
In addition to providing fresh meals to students, Smart Mouth Pizza has a unique community outreach program. For every 10 pizzas produced, the company donates one pizza to students in need across the country. Principal Rogers has already tasted the pizza and praised its flavor.
“Delicious,” he said.
The next school to benefit from this program will be Robert C. Byrd High School, where Smart Mouth Pizza will be available starting on Thursday. This initiative marks a positive shift in how school meals are being approached, focusing on both taste and nutrition.
As more schools adopt this model, it could set a new standard for what students can expect from their lunch options. The combination of fresh ingredients, healthy choices, and community support makes Smart Mouth Pizza a promising addition to school menus.
